Construction of the Nuruddin Mosque in Songkhla, Southern Thailand

Construction and Incomplete Status

In Songkhla (Songla), a city in southern Thailand, the construction of a mosque known as the “Nuruddin” Mosque had previously begun but remained incomplete.

Specifically, during Ramadan in 2018, TIKA (Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency) organized an iftar (breaking of the fast) program in the mosque’s courtyard, followed by a visit to the mosque complex, and the promise that the mosque’s construction would soon be completed was announced.

In a statement made by TIKA officials, it was announced that the construction of the mosque would begin or be completed after the Eid al-Fitr holiday; this indicates that the project is not yet finished.

Therefore, the “Nuruddin Mosque” project is currently considered an incomplete mosque project awaiting completion. Efforts are being made to move the process forward with the contributions of both the local Muslim community and international supporters.

Location and General Context

Songkhla is a province in southern Thailand, near the Malay Peninsula, and the region has a large Muslim population. Muslims constitute approximately 5% of the population in Thailand.

The Muslim population of Songkhla is concentrated particularly in Hat Yai and its surrounding areas, as well as the old city, where many mosques and religious buildings are located.

The Nuruddin Mosque project is situated in one of these Muslim settlements and was developed to meet the worship needs of the local community.

Support and Development Initiatives

The Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TİKA) supports projects like the Nuruddin Mosque and organizes religious programs such as Ramadan events; within this framework, visits to the mosque complex have been organized, and support for the completion of the construction has been announced.

Such support programs contribute to strengthening relations between the Muslim community in Thailand and international organizations, both religiously and culturally.

In Summary

The Nuruddin Mosque is a mosque project in the Songkhla region of southern Thailand that was started but is not yet completed.

Construction has been halted for a period, and it is planned to be completed, particularly with the support of organizations such as TİKA.

The Nurettin (Nuruddin) Mosque is seen as an important project, serving both religious and cultural functions as a religious center for the worship and social needs of the Muslim community.

The revised implementation projects for the Nurettin (Nuruddin) Mosque were prepared by the Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TİKA) and are expected to be implemented.
